Little Bear Poké Comes To Montclair, New Jersey

I have seriously been thinking forever, “I really wish good poké would come to Essex County already!” I’m not saying there isn’t poké already in this area, because there is, but I mean GOOD, and FRESH ingredients. I am really not into chain sushi spots, because I’m beyond paranoid and picky about my fish.

So, just imagine my excitement when I heard about Little Bear coming to Bellevue Avenue in Montclair. I went on a sunny Sunday, where there was a decent crowd enjoying full bowls and colorful shaved ice. I am also the most indecisive person in the world (which you might know) and always want to put every single ingredient into everything I have the option of making, so I decided to make my own. The fish was SO. FRESH. and not too covered in sauce; I love spice (as you should know by now) so the spicy tuna was delicious. It was the right amount of spicy mayo and tuna and went super well with the cucumber, pineapple, edamame, and avocado. I also asked for teriyaki sauce on the side, which I ended up using to help combine all of the different elements. The produce was local and sourced from local farms; I loved that peaches and sprouts were an option for toppings, because I feel these aren’t typical poké ingredients.

Though I’ve only been here once, I highly recommend if you’re in the area. The woman run and operated aspect is also a plus, and apparently the shaved ice is a must! I’ll report back once I try it, pinky promise.
